May 21: Gaithersburg Book Festival Schedule

The schedule for the Gaithersburg Book Festival is now online and you can find both the adult and children’s schedules here! I will be talking about Inheritance Of Aging Self at 11:15 at the Edgar Allen Poe Tent on a panel with Jay Hall Carpenter and Lisa Tice, moderated by Shaquetta Nelson and I’ll be signing books (available for purchase at the book festival) right after the panel concludes. This is an amazing book festival with something for people of all ages and interests and this year there is a full day of poetry panels for the first time! The festival is at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg, MD.

Gaithersburg Book Festival

After several years of participating in the Gaithersburg Book Festival, working with teen writers and as a panel moderator, I am excited to share that I will be expanding my involvement this year and will be helping to put together poetry programming–including panels, workshops, and more.  This is GBF’s 10th year and promises to be better than ever. Please plan to join us on May 18th, 2019 and if you are an author who would like to be a presenter, applications are due November 2!

Another Great Gaithersburg Book Festival!

Kateema Lee, Erica Wright, V.P. Loggins, and Kurt Olsson.

I had so much fun introducing the poetry panel at the Gaithersburg Book Festival featuring Kateema Lee, Erica Wright, Kurt Olsson, and V.P. Loggins and being there with one of the teens from the Gaithersburg Teen Writing Club while she introduced YA authors Jessica Spotswood and Winifred Conkling!  Despite the rain there was a great crowd and lots of wonderful authors.  If you missed it this year, it will be on May 18th next year, save the date!

Gaithersburg Book Festival 2018

The Gaithersburg Book Festival takes place on May 19th and I am delighted to have the opportunity to be introducing a poetry panel which features poets Kateema Lee, Kurt Olsson, V.P. Loggins, and Erica Wright.  The panel begins at 10:15 at the Rachel Carson Pavilion.

At 12:15, members of the Gaithersburg Teen Writing Club (which I co-mentor) will be introducing authors Winifred Conkling and Jessica Spotswood at the Ogden Nash Pavilion.

Also at 10:15, Kim Roberts, one of the featured poets at the upcoming June DiVerse Gaithersburg Poetry and Open Mic will also be talking about her new book at the H.L. Mencken Pavilion.

This is the third year that I have been a part of GBF and the fourth year that our teens have introduced authors.  It is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of our very literature-centric community and a lot of fun.  So check out the full schedule and come out and join us for a great day of books, authors, readers, and more!

Another Great Year At The Gaithersburg Book Festival

We had a great time at the Gaithersburg Book Festival this year!  So proud of the teens from the Gaithersburg Teen Writing Club, which I co-mentor, for their flawless introduction of authors Meg Medina and Christine Kendall.

The creative writing workshop that I led with Robin Stevens Payes and Neal P. Gillen, who also mentor MWA teen writing clubs, was fantastic.  We had good attendance and the kids responded with great enthusiasm to the prompts that we gave them. Many thanks to Pam Schipper from the Town Courier for featuring our workshop in her coverage of GBF!
